the fence

fence.jpg

What is with our fascination with those areas off-limits? Give us miles and miles of wide open spaces in which to run around and play, and it is still that path fenced off with the “keep out” sign that calls to us and intrigues us most. What is on the other side of it? Surely better stuff than what is available to us here, or it wouldn’t be protected in such a way.

Spending as much time as I do peering through the lens of a camera at kids and babies only confirms the notion that we are born explorers, forever curious and never satisfied with what is safely within our reach. It is only as we get older, when we become so accustomed to restrictions placed in front of us at every turn, that many simply retreat and convince themselves to be content within the safety and security of a limited fenced-in world.

But children know the truth of it. We are boundless by design and within each of us a blueprint of infinite possibility exists if only we are willing to break down the barriers that hold us back. There really *is* good stuff beyond the fence.
