shhhhh

Each time this child’s mom would attempt to “direct” her as I was photographing, the girl would emphatically shoosh her and continue to go about as she pleased. It was quite comical, and as I was later reviewing the images I realized this was something I could really relate to. Sometimes I wonder if anyone else feels the way I do when I wish the world would just pipe down so that I could hear my own self think.

I am an advertisers worst nightmare. If I sense I’m being “sold” on anything I tune out, turn it off, or walk away. This is the main reason why I find it impossible to watch tv or listen to the radio, but honestly it seems we are bombarded by people trying to sell us something everywhere we go. Everything is so commercial, right down to the internet sites trying to sell us intimacy. This feels very wrong to me.

I understand that people need to market their products and services in order to make a living, but somewhere along the way it seems it has gone too far. And the more we allow ourselves to be herded around like cattle, the less in touch with our own intuition we become. We begin to pay little attention to our own personal preferences and soon become disconnected from both our individuality and our guidance. And where does the “selling” stop? We’ve allowed it full access into our homes, how can it not seep in to our personal relationships? How do we trust the sincerity of anyone?

Well, I am coming off as very cynical this Sunday morning and I don’t like that, which tells me I need to spend some time today in the one place I can be assured I won’t be sold anything……outdoors with nature. This is my refuge from the sell, sell, sell atmosphere I find coming at me from every direction, and where I most often go to think and feel and remember what is true within myself.

So try it! And if you purchase one hour with nature today I’ll throw in this handy set of stainless steel carving knives guaranteed never to rust, the dial-o-matic food slicer, and the ever-popular pocket fisherman. But wait…….there’s more……….
