meaningless

I was standing in line at a busy store one evening last week when the man in front of me turned around to survey how long the line extended. He was wearing a bright red t-shirt with the words, “no one cares about your blog” proclaimed across the front. Since he was rather tall the words on his shirt were literally in my face as he turned in my direction. I looked up at him and just laughed, for I took his message so personally it may as well have said, “no one cares about your blog, Cynthia”. I told him I loved his shirt.
As this year is quickly coming to a close, I’m trying to determine the fate of this photoblog. Wondering if the time and effort spent here might be better utilized somewhere else. Half of what I say is meaningless. Maybe all of it is meaningless. And who is it that I am trying to reach anyway?
Have we arrived at the place where we find it easier to express ourselves to the vast unknown masses than to one individual sitting in the same room with us? Do we need always a full house audience to observe and applaud us in order to be convinced of our worth? We live in households where we disconnect from those who love us and retreat to our own rooms and log on to our own computers so that we may connect with those in the outside world. In this information age where we have the capacity to instantaneously share our thoughts and feelings and experiences with the world at large, have we forgotten how to relate one on one? With all the current technology are we really more closely connected to one another than our great-grandparents were? Are we less lonely?
I wonder.
