timeless

 
I will begin by saying I’m not entirely comfortable with labeling any of my images as “timeless”. This sounds a little pretentious to me, or as if I’m going out of my way to concoct a scene for the express purpose of making portraits appear vintage and thus suddenly “timeless”. In truth this is the exact opposite of what I’m after when making a portrait.

What I do like about the word timeless though, is the meaning behind it. “Unaffected by time”……..”having no beginning or end”……”not restricted to a particular time or date”……this is where the romantic allure is for me. This is the ethereal place where true beauty resides, and conjures visions of love, God, and soul. The images I make are always, always feeble attempts to step beyond time and place and touch something that can’t be held in its grasp. Of course my grand intentions are never fully realized, but it’s the seeking that makes it all worthwhile.
