stumped

With the two year old set, sedentary moments can be a hard to come by commodity for a portrait photographer. So we’re always on the lookout for any type of “holding device” that may give us a precious still frame or two of these elusive little creatures before they’re off and running again. We’re fully aware going in that most any type of seating offered to the industrious toddler will be short lived, but still we try and try again, ever hopeful that something will stick long enough for a worthy portrait to emerge from the transitory stillness.
I liked the expression on this little girl because it felt as if an unspoken truce was being communicated between us. I was all out of tricks and exhausted from a hot and humid game of keep away from the photographer, so sat her on the stump as a last resort and then scurried back to where I hoped to grab a few final shots. As I raised my camera she cast this glance in my direction that seemed to say, “alright lady, I‘ll grant you a picture, but you better be quick ‘cuz I’m giving you exactly 1/250th of a second and I’m outta here.”
One frame only, shot at 1/250th of a second, and she was gone like a flash.
