On any given morning I wake up and get to decide how I’d like to see myself and the work I do. Sometimes, when things are extra hectic or there’s multiple problems to contend with, I forget that I have this choice. These are the bad days, the days when I’m full of criticism and judgment……of myself and others. I’ve unconsciously decided that my work lacks meaning and my contributions to the planet are nonexistent. My vision narrows and I see myself only as an overly-sensitive, procrastinating, daydreaming girl whose job is simply to take cute kid pictures.

And then I remember: living a meaningful life is a choice I get to make moment by moment. It’s all perception. Suddenly my vision expands and judgment falls away. These are the good days, the days when I feel generous and valuable and connected. Everything is full of significance and beauty. And my job is simply to be present with camera and warmly invite it in.
