I’ve almost made a sport of attempting to photograph adorable little girls without also photographing the massive bows perched on top of their heads. A more assertive photographer would simply insist the mother remove the monstrosity from the start to make life a whole lot easier, not to mention more photo-worthy. But since I always try to respect the wishes and personal tastes of my clients I usually let it go until the end of the shoot where I’ll quietly ask if we may take a few shots without hair accessories.

With the busy and more chaotic nature of family shoots I often never get around to asking, and then greatly lament this later while looking at the proofs. Somebody really should go after the manufacturers of these mammoth hair toppers, and I for one do not understand why this weighty issue isn’t being addressed in the current presidential campaign. Ü
