Some men see things as they are and ask why.
Others dream things that never were and ask why not.

~George Bernard Shaw

When I was a young teen, I had a poster on the wall of my bedroom of a little girl, maybe 3 years old, that included the quote above. My mom didn’t like the poster at all, and I was never quite certain if it was the fact that the girl in the photograph wasn’t wearing a shirt and had a rather haunting gaze on her face, or if she felt the quote to be a bit rebellious. I do know my mom worried at times about my being such a dreamer. She was fearful that my imagining things that were not reality would ultimately break my heart should they never come to fruition.

The truth is, many of the dreams I’ve believed so ferociously have in fact been shattered. I’ve been wrong about people, I’ve misjudged events, and things that I’ve held close and cherished have vanished. When it comes right down to it, I’ve been wrong more than I’ve been right.

Knowing this, would I go back in time if I could and choose a more accurate reality over my dreams? Never. It has been the sweet imagining that’s given me peace about the past, joy in the moment, and hope for the future. I will continue to choose to only look at things that make me feel good in looking at them whether they are real or not. I will choose to listen to the faint song that still sings in my chest and assures me that love always conquers fear. For it is only from this place of imagining that I’m able to find the strength and courage to go forward.

Love and Peace,

~Cynthia

. . . You may say that I’m a dreamer, but I’m not the only one. . .
