trash the gap shirt

Not to be outdone by all those trendy wedding photographers scheduling “trash the dress” shoots with their brides, I’ve had a number of sorta similar sessions recently with the junior set I photograph. Although these “trash the gap shirt” sessions really aren’t my idea at all, and certainly not the intended plan the moms of these little guys had for their portrait session. But mix together a young boy wearing a white linen shirt with salt and sand and water and it’s pretty much a guaranteed recipe for photographic disaster. . .usually within minutes.

The mom of this toddler had barely pulled the tags of his new gap shirt when almost immediately both his little fists were full of wet sand and he began making drip sand castles not on the beach, but on his person. I’m pretty sure one of his brothers was responsible for the early stage sand castle drips on his head. And yes, the brothers also had quickly joined in the trash the gap shirt party we had going on, so there wasn’t a clean white shirt in sight (including mine Ü ).

Oh boy.
