without guile

It was his mother who described her middle son as guileless, and over the years of photographing this little boy I would have to agree. With him there are no hidden agendas as he bounces along, candidly revealing how he’s feeling and what he’s wanting in any given moment. I love this about him, even though oftentimes it means he quite frankly wants nothing at all to do with pictures.
While the focus of this most recent shoot was his younger brother’s one year portraits, I was glad his mom still allowed me plenty of time and space for him alone. On any given shoot day you never really know which child will be most up for portraits, and it’s so nice when we can just go with things as they unfold, being grateful for what we’re given even if it doesn’t exactly go as planned. I appreciate so much the client that is able to let go of expectations enough to welcome the warm surprises along the way.
So as it happens, on the day of his little brothers birthday shoot, it was this boy’s turn to really shine in front of the camera. I ended with a multitude of wonderful shots of him, but more importantly I had the best time just being in the presence of such a truly pure soul who is completely without guile.
