grandparent love

 
In my opinion, the loving energy that a grandparent bestows on their grandchild is among the purest and most unconditional love there is. Certainly this isn’t always the case, but it’s common enough to take notice of, and be inspired by. I experienced the benefits of this love from own grandparents, and was fortunate enough to witness the transformation of my mom from parent into grandparent before she passed away a short couple of years later. The manner in which this love expanded her heart and filled any room she entered with a new and greater appreciation for life was glorious to see.

The real beauty of grandparent love is that it typically is free of the need to mold, control, or modify behavior. The grandparent simply adores the child, and since all living things respond to being adored by adoring back, this positive energy continually grows and multiplies and causes both to become more effervescent as a result.

Of course parents adore their children too. But in daily interactions it gets complicated and often goes more like this: I adore you. Do as I say! I adore you. Clean your room! I adore you. You can’t wear that! So the energy of adoration gets a little muddied, unfortunately to the degree that sometimes the pure signal gets lost altogether.

Wouldn’t it be wonderful if we could infuse all of our interactions with the energy of grandparent love?
