rock on

This would be another outtake. I was pretty sure it wouldn’t work when considering it, but as we were heading inside to finish with some studio shots I quickly asked the young girl to stop right where she was. The late afternoon light was crazy contrasty in this location as it poured through the trees and shrubs, the humidity high, and the mosquitoes bothersome. We were both ready to wrap up the shoot indoors.

The 7 or 8 frames I shot here didn’t end up working at all, as I suspected would be the case. But there’s something about her expression in this one that wouldn’t let me discard it. It was so unlike anything else I got from this exceptionally talented and accomplished young girl that I actually wondered where it came from. When I look at it though, I see her incredible strength and feel my own, and there’s something really empowering about that.
