I don’t show many proofs to clients shot this close-up. I suppose it’s because I feel this may be a bit intense for the typical viewer, or limit enlargement possibilities, but more than anything the subject’s expression really has to warrant coming in this tight. So it came as a surprise when the grandfather of this young girl ordered a large canvas of the print for himself.

The canvas arrived today and is strikingly bold, with her resolute gaze speaking volumes of confidence and audacity. This portrait isn’t what I normally see grandparents gravitating towards, as they generally tend to stick with even lighting and sweetly demure smiles. I like the fact that this child’s grandfather chose to see her in this more powerful way.
