silent spaces

It’s been brought to my attention (in a kind way) that I haven’t been using my own words much around here lately. And I suppose I have been feeling rather quiet. In my opinion, we spend too much of our time trying to fill space with empty words though, either in an effort to ease the awkwardness of silence or continually capture an audience. I don’t want to do that here. Everyone needs a space where obligation and “have-to‘s“ don‘t exist, and this is mine. And besides, where else might I place my massive collection of inspiring quotes on display if not here?!?
About a month ago I saw the movie “The Visitor” for the first time. I loved it so much that I watched it again later, and find myself still thinking about it a lot. One of the best movies I’ve seen in a long time. It was brilliantly and thoughtfully done, and I loved how it allowed space within it for the viewer to really absorb the story and form their own thoughts about what they‘re observing. So much out there leading us by the hand, telling us how to think and feel that it seems we’ve lost touch with our innate ability to assimilate information and come to our own, more valid conclusions.
Silent spaces are good and necessary, don’t you think?

PS The couple in the photo aren’t clients or anyone I know, I just noticed them while walking by. They weren’t talking at all but were perfectly content just swinging and watching the water and boats. I thought it was cute how her feet couldn’t touch the ground in this silent space they shared together.
