empowered

I’m now photographing high school seniors, which is new for me. I had no interest in years past, nor did I feel it would be an area I’d personally do very well in, given that the more choreographed nature of these shoots is not a strength of mine. But I’m enjoying this fresh arena very much, and it’s truly invigorating to spend time with these passionate and idealistic young beings.

Pretty girls surely make pretty portraits, but the aim becomes getting them to reveal what lies beneath the lovely exterior. This was one of the last images made of this young woman, and the energy in the studio as I shot this sequence was decidedly different than when we began. Both of us had been feeding off the others energy in almost a crescendo fashion, where we each left the studio feeling a sense of self-empowerment we perhaps couldn’t remember a few hours earlier.

It was good.
